Everybody is perfect in their own way and it is the basic right of every human being in this world to lead a happy life. To compare two persons or categorize certain kinds of people based on the few chapters you know of their life is mere absurd because you do not know their whole story. Physical disability and functional limitation in a person is not a token of what someone deserves but, it is a situation that needs utmost care and love.
Such people are just as normal as you are with extraordinary senses and are worthy enough to have a wonderful life with just a little help. Rehabilitation is a form of help provided to a person who is unable to perform his day-to-day activities due to aging or a health condition that includes injuries, stroke, mental disorder, surgery, disease, or trauma.
A person in such a condition will further find it hard to think straight, to be optimistic, to communicate with others, to move around freely, and to even have a cordial relationship with close ones. Hence, it is highly recommended to assist such individuals and support them in whatever way possible to retrieve ideal health and well-being.
Rehabilitation is often misunderstood to be offered only for people who endure long-term damages or for people who are physically disabled. Some even think that rehabilitation is age-specific. These common misconceptions have to be remedied because rehabilitation is a process that helps an individual of any age to feel independent, experience quality life and realize their potential.
Though the process cannot revert the damage already caused but can help one look at the brighter, positive side of life. As it is rightly said, ‘Better late than never’, beginning rehabilitation at the earliest, immediately after recognizing some disturbance in the health condition may outcome better results.
The sole purpose of rehabilitation is to help, heal and recover an individual to their normal self, irrespective of the severity of their ailment or depression. Several sessions, programs, and medicines are prescribed based on the severity of an individual’s ailment.
As people say, ‘One of the hardest things was learning that I was worth the recovery’, most of the people who experience functional limitations fail to hope for recovery. It is only the disabler’s feeling of incompetence and dependence that makes them aggressive many a time. Even close-knit families cannot understand their sudden reactions to certain situations.
In such a situation, the family needs to understand and stand alongside the individual. When families fail to do so, the individual undergoes a higher level of depression, losing the slightest hope to heal. The ultimate aim of the process is to teach the individual, as well as, the entire family of the individual to accept, abide and adapt to the lifestyle changes.
We at C-Park understand, analyze, and extend our support by referring people to appropriate clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, or psychotherapists. We assist people suffering from any of the following disorders given below.
Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric illness that leads to abnormal thinking. A person suffering from schizophrenia is said to live in an imaginary world that gives them the pleasure and comfort that they are denied in reality. They refuse to face the reality. Some common symptoms that can be noticed in a person suffering from Schizophrenia are:
Sometimes, such disorders demand lifelong treatments and constant medication
Addiction happens when a person has an intense focus on a substance such as tobacco or alcohol. This leads to excessive usage of that particular substance which eventually results in physical, emotional, and social harm. When observed well, one can find that the person undergoing addiction will have a pattern of consuming it. This can be brought under control if it is addressed at the earliest stage possible.
At C-Park our rehabilitation counselor observes the admitted individual’s situation, analyses his/her potential and limitations, strengths, and weakness. Based on the assessment a counseling plan is set to improve the person’s independence and quality of life. At present, the need for rehabilitation is very high and at C-Park, we have trained professionals to provide rehabilitation services.
C-Park shares the real journey of a woman, who inspired us through her strength of mind “to never give up until there is even the smallest improvement recorded every day”. Even today, she lives by these words and is one among the many people we have met, who overcame great odds and showed us what it means to be strong in the face of adversity.
Can a woman in her 40s with 25 years of working experience, blessed with a lovable husband and an adorable daughter undergo rehabilitation? Yes, if she is mentally disturbed or pressurized by her relatives and society. She was a strong, independent woman who wanted to have a baby boy after their first daughter. Since she was not able to get what she desired for a longer period and with consistent interventions of the people around her, it became her psychological triggering factor that slowly gave rise to schizophrenia.
To those unknown, Schizophrenia is a mental disorder, where the person experiencing it often imagines things that are not real and starts to hear voices in their head.
It was initially difficult for her husband to identify the disorder in her. He tried to understand her but at one point it was shocking for him to see her denying the reality and preferring to live in her own world of hallucination. He made a bold decision to get her treated with us. Like anyone would do, she refused to undergo counseling first. Later our counselor made her understand that it was for the best and she agreed to it. Through C-Park she was referred to the right organization and a therapist with years of experience attended her immediately.
Having given the right treatment at the right time, we could vividly see changes in her as she could think clearly, distinguish what is real and unreal, connect with people, and even manage her emotions. Enough space and time were provided to her by the therapist to heal herself on her own because he knew forcing would only worsen the situation. She got better over time but is still under observation. The therapist is constantly in touch with her and her family. We at C-Park are proud to be a part of and help create such happy lives after rehab.
“Nothing is more satisfying to us than to see a progressive rehab.”
It was during such a tough time, we extended our support and she made the best use of our counseling to meet her real self. Are any of your friends or a known person in need of rehabilitation? We are here to help. Reach out to us and our experts will help you create such success stories.
